At exactly 2.00am today, 1st November, 2015, Canadian time would be set backwards. It does not mean that the revolving of the Earth around the Sun stopped or skipped a bit on the part where Canada is on the Earth.
However, in line with the fact that there are sometimes where there is an experienced shorter day and longer night, that is it gets dusk early in the day, the national time is turned backwards in other to conserve energy. It is like adjusting to one's daily schedule to the Sun's schedule.
It may interest us to know that this practice has been about a century old and is practiced in Europe, North America, and some parts of South America like Paraguay and parts of Brazil. It is never practiced in Africa, but once practiced in Asia in the past.
Although this practice has been in existence for quite a long time, its modern day practice was suggested by Hudson George, a New Zealander. Germany and Austria-Hungary became the first countries to officially use Daylight Savings time, and it was in April 30, 1916, when their national time was turned forward.at 11.00pm. U.S adopted this practice partially in 1918.
